We were excited once again to be at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle all weekend for the UK Maker Faire 2016. The UK Maker Faire is the UK's biggest collection of hackers, crafters, coders, DIYers and garden shed inventors and offers a great way to spend an enjoyable day out with the family, whilst offering endless learning opportunities via fun activities.
On our stand this year we featured the
Team Memory Game, A BBC micro:bit
controlled buggy and a BBC micro:bit
controlled Crane.
The Team Memory game offered our visitors not only the chance to play a fun game but also a lucky few were able to win a Prize! Our seven lucky winners each took home a
Game Project Kit. The Team Memory Game had its début at last years Maker Faire and, despite several outings since, has only been beaten twice prior to this weekend, so a big well done to this years contestants!
Showcasing the versatility of the
BBC micro:bit, the Buggy and the Crane were in operation over the entire weekend.
Our BBC micro:bit controlled crane, as always, was a great draw and many of you have asked how to build your own. Now you can thanks to this easy to follow
step by step guide!
Our BBC micro:bit controlled Buggy also caused a stir and, as with the crane, you can
build one of these yourself.
It was also good to see some of our friends there over the weekend.
Just Add Sharks were there showcasing their excellent vanillabox concept laser cutter. The vanillabox prototype that was on display generated a lot of interest as it has been designed with the first time home user in mind and would be ideal for those looking to do their own cutting or prototyping their own Raspberry Pi cases.
Robox were there with their excellent CEL Robox 3D Printer featuring a Dual Material Head. The CEL Robox® Dual Material Print Head allows users to print with 2 materials or 2 colours in the same material on the same layer! As we currently have the
CEL Robox 3D Printer on sale, there has never been a better time to pick one up.
The Crafty Robot were there with their ever popular
Fizzbit module. For an hour, our very own, Geoff Hampson bravely manned the Fizzbit stand and helped some young visitors build and test Cup Bots!
Finally we would like to say a big thank you to everyone that visited the UK Maker Faire 2016 and to all of the volunteers, thanks to all of you the Maker Faire keeps on growing and growing.
